Paris, the City of Love! But why, exactly?

You’ve undoubtedly heard Paris’s nickname, the City of Love, but if you’ve never been there, you might wonder what makes it so romantic.

We’ve compiled 10 reasons why Paris has established itself as “la cité de l’amour”:

  1. Paris is a large city with numerous sights, but it also has a more intimate side along Montmartre. So it offers the vibrancy of a big city, but also the charm of a smaller town.
  2. The skyline is protected by UNESCO, and buildings cannot be taller than six stories, ensuring that no part of the city blocks the view.
  3. Paris is relatively small, and the streets are extra wide, making it the perfect city for strolling hand in hand.
  4. A number of romantic films have been shot in Paris, including “Funny Face” and “Midnight in Paris,” which have contributed to the city’s star-studded and glamorous image.
  5. Don’t believe the hype about how “snobby” all Parisians are—on the contrary, they are flirtatious, passionate, and downright seductive, which also brings out these sides of your personality.
  6. Historically, France has been a center of culture and the arts. Famous poets and authors of the 19th century described the city as idealistically romantic.
  7. French is a Romance language and is also known as “the language of love,” which some consider to be the sexiest language in the world (regardless of whether one can speak it or even understand it).
  8. The Pont des Arts (English: Bridge of the Arts) is a pedestrian bridge over the Seine. There, it is customary for couples to attach a love lock to the railing as a symbol of their undying love. (The weight can become too much for the bridge, so the authorities have to remove them from time to time.)
  9. If the way to your heart is through your stomach, Paris is a culinary delight. From rich, hearty dishes and pastry shops full of sweets to world-famous wines!
  10. On the Wall of Love (le mur des je t’aime), there are more than 300 declarations of love in 250 languages!
